The Saint Louis Crisis Nursery’s annual Holiday Hearts program provides an opportunity for individuals, families, businesses and community organizations to become Holiday Angels, brightening the holidays for disadvantaged St. Louis-area families with children. Holiday Angels sponsor families who are currently involved in Crisis Nursery follow-up programs. More than 1,500 children from 450 families were sponsored last year by Holiday Angels, who choose the size family they want to sponsor and receive a wish list and explanation of the family’s situation. Holiday Angels are asked to deliver their gifts to a designated Crisis Nursery location so that families can arrange pick-up in time for the holidays. Kirkwood Fall Festival of Local Flavor, Sat, Oct. 11
The special event is a celebration of all things homegrown, locally owned and environmentally friendly. Visitors may spend the day shopping the sales and specials at Downtown Kirkwood’s numerous locally-owned shops. Shoppers will find unique and one-of-a-kind items for their home and garden, and fall fashion ideas, too. After working up an appetite at the festival, visitors will enjoy downtown Kirkwood’s great selection of restaurants. A local art show and live music will also be part of the festivities. Numerous artists will show and sell their work at Kirkwood Station Plaza. Live music will be performed by Boney Goat from 11-1pm and Prairie Soul from 2-4:30pm. Also visit the Pumpkin Patch and Harvest Market at the Kirkwood Farmers’ Market. The Pumpkin Patch will be open daily in Oct., featuring varieties of pumpkins, colorful mums, cornstalks and a full selection of fresh produce. The Harvest Market will be open in the grassy area just west of the Market and will feature local farmers and market vendors.
