a poem by Linda Sue Jenkins
I am no less significant just because I am disabled.
But I see in other's eyes that this is how I'm labeled.
I am no less significant because I'm in a wheelchair.
Gawks and long stares, at times are hard to bear.
I am no less significant since work I cannot do.
I still contribute even if unworthy is the view.
I am no less significant though I cannot walk or run.
It's just more difficult finding things to do for fun.
I am no less significant since I cannot ride a bike.
Fast or slow, wind in my hair, THAT'S what I would like.
I am no less significant with dribbles on my shirt.
Fork and spoon may drop at times, but I am still alert.
I am no less significant because I do not drive.
No longer go when I please or sure when I'll arrive.
I am no less significant though no longer I crochet.
But, I'm still creative, just in a different way.
I am no less significant since my laundry's done by others.
I would love to do this task, if I had my druthers.
Can you really see me? I am still ALL here.
Take the time to know me. I AM your peer!
