Entering Their 29th Year of Showcasing Local Talent, May 23-26
by  Mary K. Morgan
If you are already, or will be, 50 years of age by May 23, 2008 — you’re in luck. That milestone and a 40-dollar entry fee will allow you to participate in the 2008 St. Louis Senior Olympics. And that 40-dollar fee covers participation in any or all of the events. So, economically speaking, there’s no need to limit yourself to just one event, when there are so many from which to choose.
This year, the St. Louis Senior Olympics Events will be held May 23-26 (Memorial Day Weekend) and will be spread out over 14 far-reaching venues, ranging from Forest Park all the way to St. Peters, Missouri. With more than 85 events to accommodate, the competition locations need to be specific and well-suited to the events. The greater St. Louis area is fortunate to have a wide variety of such venues and a community spirit that cordially provides the Senior Olympics locations for their games.
Senior Olympics Director Nicole Liebman sums up the expanded 2008 venue locations by saying, “This year, we are looking to significantly enhance the athletes’ experience. Partnering with some of St. Louis’ finest athletic venues will not only make this better, it will also get the entire St. Louis community involved in this exceptional community-wide program.”
In 2008, more than 1,500 athletes are expected to participate; most are local competitors, but some travel from afar to compete in the St. Louis games. Swimming, track and field events, golf, cycling, shuffleboard and about 80 other competitions will be in progress. Visit their official web site for the times, locations and directions to your favorites: www.stlouisseniorolympics.org.
If you would like more information, or if you have a question about the 2008 St. Louis Senior Olympics please call (314) 432-5705. This includes volunteer and sponsorship opportunities as well as participation queries.
