An exhibit titled, “Contemporary Chinese Painting from the Harbin Art School” will feature work by artists associated with the Harbin Normal University in China and will be held at Gallery B, Gallery 210 at the University of Missouri-St. Louis.
Harbor Normal University is known for its arts education, quality faculty and advanced facilities.
The paintings at the exhibit have been created using the Chinese style, guo hua, meaning “national” or “native painting.” Guo hua involves using essentially the same techniques as calligraphy and is done with a brush dipped in black or colored ink.
The featured artists include Wang Long and Lu Yu Shun.
Long earned a master's degree in art in 2002 from Harbin Normal University where he studied in the Department of Traditional Chinese Painting. His work has been exhibited around the world and won many awards in art competitions in China.
Shun is the vice director of the National Institute of Chinese Painting and the vice principal of Harbin Normal University. His work is known for its mixture of Western style and guo hua. Shun has been selected five times to exhibit his artwork in the Chinese National Art Exhibition, which is held every four years.
The artists will be in attendance at a public reception from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m., June 27 in the gallery.
